About Vape Kits/E Cigs

As explained in further detail in our History of E Cigarettes post e cigs – also known as vapes, vape kits or e cigarettes – have probably been around for longer than you think. The first e cig was actually invented in 1963!

Their popularity has increased hugely over the last few years with technology, devices and flavours rapidly advancing. With so many different vape devices now available and so many different terms used to describe them, if you’re new to vaping you may not know where to start.

You may have heard other vapers mentioning all sorts of mysterious words and phrases such as ‘sub ohm’ ‘PG/VG’ and ‘box mods’ and want to find out more. Or, you may want to just get on with it and find something simple and easy to use. Read on to see all the different devices available and help you find out which e cigarette you should buy.

If there’s any terms or phrases that you don’t understand, check out our E Cig Glossary for definitions. You may also want to read our beginnners guide to e cigarettes post explaining how e cigs work.

What to consider before choosing a vape or e cig kit

When choosing a vape kit, consider how much you want to spend and what you want to get out of your e cig. Are you happy to pay more for your initial kit if it provides more vapour or more flavour choice? Do you want an e cigarette that’s inconspicuous and easy to use?

Click on the headings under each electronic cigarette type below to find out more. You’ll also find pros and cons of each type to help you decide if a device is right for you.

Cigalikes

Very simple, fuss free e cigs with disposable refills

What are cigalikes?

Cigalikes are the simplest, usually cheapest e cig available and as the name suggests, are the types of electronic cigarette that look most like a cigarette.

They consist of a small rechargeable battery and a ‘refill’ - a disposable cartridge containing e liquid.

Is a cigalike the right e cig for you?

Many vapers start off with the cigalike style e cig. They’re very simple to use and most people find them ideal as an initial transition from cigarettes.

The batteries for cigalikes are very small, usually lasting between 1-2 hours between charges (or 2-3 with our K2 Battery). Spare batteries are however very cheap and easy to carry around. Cartomizer refill flavours are limited in comparison to devices that use e liquids. Our OK E Cig cigalike refills are available in either tobacco or menthol flavour.

You may want to weigh up whether ease of use, looks and size are more important to you than battery life and choice of flavours.

PROS

CONS

  • Low cost
  • Very easy to use
  • Small & subtle
  • Small battery = shorter life
  • Smaller clouds of vapour

What do you need to get started?

You'll need a starter kit such as our OK Cigalike E Cig Kit (£6). Our kits contain a battery, a charger and two tobacco flavoured refill cartomizers in 12mg & 18mg nicotine strengths. You also get a handy plastic carry case to keep everything together.

EGO Vape Pens

Simple e cigarettes with refillable e-liquid tanks

What are EGO Vape Pens?

Many cigalike users eventually move on to an ego vape pen due to its longer battery life and wide choice of flavours. However, it’s also a good kit for beginners wanting a refillable e cigarette.

Ego vape pens consist of a large battery (most commonly 650mAh or 1000mAh) and a ‘tank’ (aka. clearomizer’) which is filled with e liquid.

Is a vape pen the right e cig for you?

If you want an e cig that will last a decent amount of time between charges and a wide range of flavour options but don’t want big clouds of vapour, a vape pen style e cig is a great option.

You can expect our 650mAh battery to last around 4-6 hours and the 1000mAh version 8-10 (depending on vaping style) but as with the cigalikes, you can also purchase extra batteries. Unlike cigalikes that are activated by inhalation, vape pens are activated manually by a button. You can use our great range of Classic E Liquids with ego vape pens, or any e liquid with at least 50% PG content.

Starting at just £15, OK Ego Vape Pen Starter Kits are also a relatively low-cose option, often working out cheaper in the long run for e liquids compared to cigalike refills and sub ohm e liquids.

PROS

CONS

  • Good value
  • Relatively easy to use
  • Varied flavour options
  • Smaller battery capacity than most sub ohm devices
  • Produce less vapour than sub ohm devices

What do you need to get started?

OK Ego Vape Pen Starter Kits come with a battery, a USB charger and an Aspire CE5-S Clearomizer. This clearomizer features a replaceable coil which is swapped out once it’s reached the end of it’s life.

Coils usually last 7 to 10 days but may last more or less time depending on your style of vaping and the e liquid you’re using.

You can choose from our standard starter kit with a 650mAh battery or our Plus starter kit with a 1000mAh battery. You’ll then just need to choose some e liquids.

Our Classic E Liquid range has been specifically developed for use with ego vape pen kits and ‘above ohm tanks’ (more about this in the sub ohm section – or click here). We don’t recommend using sub ohm e liquids with our vape pens.

SUB OHM/MODS

Range of devices from simple to highly customizable

What are sub OHM/MOD kits?

These types of device come in many shapes & sizes. Although some can be complicated to use, there are also some great beginner’s sub ohm kits available.

Sub ohm kits usually consist of a box shaped or pen style battery unit and a tank with replaceable coils below 1ohm. ‘Mods’ usually specifically refer to e cigs that allow you to change the watts/volts and sometimes many other settings.

Is a sub OHM device the right e cig for you?

The name ‘sub ohm’ relates to the resistance of the coil in a tank. Sub ohm tanks use coils with a resistance below 1ohm. Essentially, this creates more vapour and therefore often stronger flavours than standard tanks and clearomizers, which some people find more satisfying.

Although they may sound complicated, there are lots of kits available now that are very easy to use. We sell kits by two of the most popular device manufacturers - SMOK & Aspire. These devices have been selected for their high performance and ease of use. Only e liquids designed for sub ohm vaping should be used with these types of kit (at least 60% VG content is recommended).

A sub ohm kit will be a great choice if you want lots of vapour and great flavour options.

PROS

CONS

  • Creates lots of vapour
  • Great choice of e liquid flavours
  • Batteries last longer between charges
  • Usually the most expensive kits
  • Can be bulkier & more inconvenient to carry around
  • Can be more complicated to use

What do you need to get started?

Our range of sub ohm kits from SMOK & Aspire come with everything you need to get started, including instructions.

The sub ohm kits in our online shop start from just £23 and we have a great range of e liquid flavours to choose from in the OK Sub Ohm E Liquid range.
