E-cigarette use surges in the US < Go Back June 15, 2015 – Posted in: Blog - E-Cigarette News, E-Cigarettes
Following the news we recently reported that there has been a huge surge in the popularity of e-cigarettes here in the UK, it has also been reported that they are a similar phenomenon in the US, with the number of people using them increasing rapidly.
According to an online poll of 5,679 Americans by Reuters and Ipsos, 10% of American adults now vape – a figure which is 4 times higher than it was back in 2013, with this percentage being even higher among under-40s, with 15% of these using e-cigarettes.
70% of those who said they use e-cigarettes also said that they have only started vaping within the last year, demonstrating the rapid surge in the numbers of people taking up vaping over the previous year. Three quarters of those who vape also admitted that they use them in combination with tobacco cigarettes, suggesting that people are gradually making the switch to e-cigarettes in order to give up smoking.
The rise in popularity of e-cigarettes correlates with the decline in smokers, with 19% of adults now smoking, a decrease from previous years. There are many reasons for people making the switch to e-cigarettes, with people listing their main reasons as family and friends, the lower cost and the ability to use them indoors.
