To get started with using your e-cigarette, press the on/off button to switch it on (new generation e-cigarettes will have a button, but cig-a-like e-cigarettes will not), and then draw the vapour into your mouth. Hold the vapour in your mouth for around five seconds, inhaling the vapour deeper into your lungs, before exhaling through your mouth or nose. Take slow, steady puffs as you inhale to give your body time to take in the vapour.
If you’re switching from traditional cigarettes, the nicotine strength of the e-cigarette may be different than you’re used to – make sure you have cartridges or e-liquids available in different nicotine strengths to help you adjust to smoking a new device. Using a lower strength at regular intervals can help to maintain a steady nicotine level in your system and to reduce cravings – if you do feel cravings, have just a few puffs of higher strength until the cravings fade.
You should also bear in mind that it takes a longer time for the nicotine to enter your system with e-cigarettes than it does with regular cigarettes, so be patient while waiting for that nicotine hit!
